No. 3 Pitt Shuts Out Notre Dame at Home, 2-0

PITTSBURGH – The No. 3 University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team defeated ACC foe Notre Dame, 2-0, Saturday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
NEWS & NOTES
Both Pitt and Notre Dame (8-8, 4-6 ACC) were held scoreless in the first half. The Panthers took a 4-2 advantage in shots and 3-1 lead in corner kicks at the break.
Pitt came out firing in the second half, connecting with the back of the net early as Ordoñez scored his third goal of the season in the 48th minute. Ordoñez gathered a rebounded shot off of Washington's foot, and found the left side of the net from eight yards out for the first goal of the contest (1-0).
The Panthers scored its second goal of the match in the 76th minute, as Dexter took a long pass from Petkovic and ran 30 yards down the left sideline, cutting inside with his right foot and connecting with the upper right portion of the goal. Pitt held on to its 2-0 lead the rest of the way.
Pitt outshot the Fighting Irish, 8-1, in the second half and 12-3 for the game. The Panthers also finished the game with a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Panthers finish the spring regular season at home Thursday, April 8 against Virginia. Start time is set for 7 p.m. on the ACCNX. Fan attendance is limited to player and coach pass list only for the remaining games at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

- The Panthers move to 12-2 overall and 8-1 in the ACC. The eight conference wins ties a program record, matching the 1995 team that won eight Big East games.
- Pitt earned its third shutout victory of the spring season. The Panthers defeated Duquesne 1-0 (Feb. 27) and Boston College 1-0 (Mar. 13). All three shutouts have come at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- Sophomore Arturo Ordoñez scored his third goal of the season in the 48th minute, giving Pitt a 1-0 lead. The goal was Ordoñez's second in three games.
- Senior Alexander Dexter scored his fourth goal of the season in the 76th minute. The senior now has 15 goals for his career.
- Both senior Bryce Washington and sophomore Veljko Petkovic tallied assists on the evening. The Panthers entered the contest second in the nation and first in the ACC in total assists.
