Jayla Everett Tabbed To The Honorable Mention All-ACC Team
3/2/2021 9:30:00 AM | Women's Basketball
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Junior guard Jayla Everett has been named to the Honorable Mention All-ACC team, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning. Everett was selected as an honorable mention All-ACC player by the league head coaches as well as the Blue Ribbon Panel (media).
"I am thrilled that Jayla was selected to an All-ACC Team," stated third-year head coach Lance White. "She has quickly established herself as one of the best players in the conference this season. Jayla is a fierce competitor and the sky is the limit for her here at Pitt."
Everett is just the second Panther in program history to earn All-ACC team accolades joining former Pitt great Brianna Kiesel (First Team selection). Kiesel also was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team while Brenna Wise and Dayshanette Harris both earned a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team.
The St. Louis, MO native is enjoying a standout first season with the Panthers as she is averaging a team-high 31.6 minutes, 15.1 points, 2.8 assists and 2.2 rebounds while connecting on a team-high 49 three-pointers. Her 15.1 ppg currently ranks ninth in the ACC and is the highest per game average for a Pitt player in three years.
Everett has scored in double figures a team-best 14 times while also eclipsing the 20-point plateau a team-high and career-high six times this season. Her six 20+ point outings are currently tied for fifth most in the ACC as she enters the postseason tournament after posting a Pitt career-high 25 points in the regular season finale at Georgia Tech on Sunday.
The gifted guard currently ranks fourth in the ACC in three-pointers made per game (2.72) as she has connected on at least three triples in 10 games this season including a career-high six against Virginia Tech. Earlier this season, Everett connected on at least two three-pointers in each of the first eight games of the season which was a new program record. She also posted 28 three-pointers through the first eight games which was also a program record.
Her offensive prowess sometimes overshadows her ability on the defensive end of the court but the lengthy guard has a knack for blocking shots as she ranks third on the squad with 15 blocks. The junior currently ranks 18th in the ACC in blocked shots and is the only player in the conference under six foot tall to record at least 15 blocks so far this season. She has also added 15 steals on the defensive end of the court as she uses her length and athleticism to her advantage.
Everett leads the Panthers into the ACC Tournament as the #12 seed as they will take on #13 Boston College on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Greensboro Coliseum. Wednesday's first round game will air live on RSN (AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh locally).
