Women’s Diving, Men’s Track & Field Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Amy Read of women's diving and Felix Wolter of men's track and field were named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Read, a junior, made history over the weekend, becoming the first female Panther diver to qualify in all three events for the NCAA Championships. Read and the diving team competed at NCAA Zone A Championship Qualifiers in Greensboro, N.C., this past weekend, and competed in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform. The Leeds, England, native earned third-place with a score of 258.10 in the 1-meter Thursday, fifth-place in the 3-meter (276.95) Friday and posted the highest score in the preliminary round Saturday in the platform (265.58) for her third qualification.
Reed will be making her third appearance in the NCAA Championships, having qualified for the Championships both her sophomore and freshman seasons. Last year, Reed and the Panthers were unable to compete due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wolter, a senior, became the first Pitt heptathlete in program history to make the NCAA Indoor Championships and he didn't disappoint in his first career appearance. The Munich, Germany, native had the best performance of his career as he finished in fourth place in the country with 5,907 points which was a new school record for the event. Wolter earned First Team All-American honors for his performance as he was able to post five personal record marks in the seven-event competition. He is the 42nd indoor First Team All-American in program history for the Panthers and first since the 2014 indoor campaign.
The ACC champion posted three top-10 marks in program history for the Panthers during the NCAA Indoor Championships. He cleared 15'11.25" (4.86m) in the pole vault, second best in program history, while posting the second best long jump in program history (7.58m) and seventh best high jump in program history (1.97m).
