Pitt Gymnastics Set for First Visit to LIU

PITTSBURGH – Pitt gymnastics (4-6-1) will stay on the road to visit LIU (0-5) for the first time in program history as the fledgling program hosts the Panthers alongside New Hampshire (3-1) and Towson (5-8) in a quad meet Sunday at 4 p.m. ET at Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y.

LAST TIME OUT

Katrina Coca picked up her fourth uneven bars title of the season as the Pitt earned second place in a quad meet hosted by Towson alongside LIU and No. 24 North Carolina Friday evening at SECU Arena.
With a score of 193.875, Pitt was runner-up behind the Tar Heels (195.000), and ahead of Towson (193.700) and LIU (188.075).
Coca earned the bars title with a career-high-tying 9.900 in the event. It marked her second consecutive title on bars, and her fourth of the 2021 season. She has posted a 9.900 on bars five times prior in her career, the last time on April 7, 2018, prior to her transfer to Pitt from the University of Kentucky.
Coca's bars score ties Pitt's highest individual mark in any event this season, matching junior Katie Chamberlain's 9.900 on bars against No. 23 Kent State (Jan. 24).

RANKING THE PANTHERS

Katrina Coca leads the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) on uneven bars with an average score of 9.854, ranked No. 39 in the nation. Last time out at Towson, she tied her career-best score with a 9.900.
As a team, Pitt is second in the EAGL on balance beam with an average score of 48.633, behind North Carolina (49.065).

SCOUTING THE SHARKS

Sunday marks LIU's fifth meet ever as a program. As of Feb. 25, the Sharks' season-best score of 190.575 came in its first competition against New Hampshire Feb. 13.
LIU, New Hampshire and Towson will compete Friday night in a tri-meet, prior to Sunday's quad meet with Pitt.
Sunday will be Pitt's second meeting with LIU in program history, as the two teams first met Feb. 19 in a neutral contest at Towson. Pitt earned the win, 193.875-188.075.
The 2021 campaign marks LIU's first season as a member of the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL). The Sharks join Temple as the league's two newest members.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

Last time out, the Wildcats earned a season-best score of 195.350 in a dual meeting against LIU Sunday.
Kylie Gorgenyi ranks second in the EAGL on vault (9.867), fifth on bars (9.825) and fourth in the all-around (38.825). Robyn Kelley is second in the league on beam with an average of 9.831.
Sunday will be the 75th all-time meeting between New Hampshire and Pitt. The Wildcats hold a 55-19 advantage in the series, including a 21-6 edge when competing at a neutral site.
Last time the teams faced each other, New Hampshire earned a season-opening victory over Pitt, 194.225-193.800, at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh Jan. 11, 2020.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Sunday will be the final of four regular-season meetings with Towson in 2021. Pitt has won two of the three prior meetings, including the first in Pittsburgh (195.700-194.474, Jan. 31) and the most recent contest at Towson (193.875-193.700, Feb. 19).
Towson ranks third in the EAGL on floor with an average team score of 48.817. The Tigers' Lauren Bolen is fifth in the EAGL all-around rankings (38.794). Jenna Weitz ranks third in the conference on beam with an average score of 9.813.
Towson holds a 27-20 advantage in the all-time series against Pitt, in addition to a 14-9 edge when competing at a neutral site.

UP NEXT

Pitt will return home for the first of a three-meet series against West Virginia, starting Friday, March 5, at 7 p.m. ET at Fitzgerald Field House. The meet will be streamed on ESPN3.
