Pitt Falls in PKs to Notre Dame in NCAA Quarterfinal

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 5 Pitt men's soccer team fell in penalty kicks to No. 4 seed Notre Dame, 1-1 (4-2), in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal Saturday evening at Alumni Stadium.

Feitosa recorded his first shot of the match in the 33rd minute, sending one high of the cross bar. Feitosa converted with his second shot of the night, taking a pass from Löeffelsend from right to left and using his right foot from six yards out for the goal.
Pitt led, 1-0, after 45 minutes and registered five shots and one corner kick in the first half.
Notre Dame came out aggressive early in the second half and held most of the possession, tallying two shots in the half's first 15 minutes. The Fighting Irish's third shot proved to be an equalizer, as Paddy Burns headed a free kick cross from Ethan O'Brien into the back of the net in the 67th minute.
Both teams combined for 11 shots in the remaining 23 minutes, with Pitt totaling five to Notre Dame's six. Either squad could convert a goal as the match ended 1-1 after regulation.
The Fighting Irish had two shots to Pitt's one in the first overtime while each team had one shot in the second overtime, but no goals came from either side as the match entered penalty kicks.
Both teams scored on their first two attempts, but the Panthers could not convert its third attempt, giving the Fighting Irish a chance at a two penalty shot lead. Notre Dame scored on its fourth attempt and Pitt was stopped on its fourth as the match ended in a 1-1 (4-2) draw.
Graduate student goalkeeper Nico Campuzano finished with four saves. He leaves his mark at Pitt with 118 career saves and 3,641 minutes played, which is second all-time in Pitt history.
Pitt concludes the NCAA Tournament with 10 goals scored and three goals conceded.

- Pitt's season ends with an overall record of 13-5-2. The 13 wins is the second-most in a single-season in the Jay Vidovich era.
- It was the first match to end in penalty kicks for the Panthers since a 0-0 (4-3) loss to Duke in the ACC Quarterfinal Nov. 4, 2018.
- Freshman Guilherme Feitosa scored Pitt's goal, his second NCAA Tournament goal of the year. Graduate student Jasper Löeffelsend assisted Feitosa and he ends his career with 18 assists, tied for third in program history.
