PITTSBURGH – Graduate student defender Jasper Löeffelsend was named to the College Soccer News All-America First Team, his second All-America honor this season and fourth of his career.
The Cologne, Germany, native adds to his postseason accolades as he was named United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-America, ACC Defensive Player of the Year and All-ACC First Team. He became the first back-to-back ACC Defensive Player of the Year since Ike Opara from Wake Forest (2008-09).
Löeffelsend is the first Panther in program history to earn All-America honors in two separate seasons. He was named Second Team All-America last season (2020-21) in both United Soccer Coaches and College Soccer News.
In just two seasons in a Panther uniform, Löeffelsend finished his career with 18 assists and two goals in 36 career games. His assist total ranks tied for third in program history for a career, while he finished with a 0.5 assists per game ratio, surpassing the previous career record by more than half (Patrick Dixon/0.21).
He totaled nine assists in 17 games played this year while scoring his first career goals at home versus UMass, tallying a brace in the 5-1 victory.
Earlier this month, the right back was named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist. He became the first Panther to be named a semifinalist multiple times in a career for the prestigious award.
