BETHLEHEM, Pa.—The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team suffered a 26-9 defeat at Lehigh on Sunday afternoon at Grace Hall.
The Panthers (2-1), ranked No. 15 in the NWCA Coaches Poll this week, lost for the first time this season, falling to the Mountain Hawks (2-1) in a matchup of perennial in-state Pennsylvania rivals.
Winning matches for the Panthers were a trio of wrestlers returning to the lineup. Cole Matthews was victorious in his first match since offseason knee surgery, Gregg Harvey triumphed and Nino Bonaccorsi earned a victory in his season debut after focusing on the U23 World Championships recently.
"Lehigh wrestled well. We did not," Pitt head coach Keith Gavin said. "We have to be ready for every match. We weren't ready today. That's on me. It's a bit of a wake-up call that we need to work on some things in practice. We look forward to having the opportunity to compete again tomorrow."
Full results from Sunday's dual are available below.
The Panthers will welcome Maryland to Pittsburgh Monday for an ACC-Big Ten dual at 6 p.m.
Pitt hasn't faced the Terrapins (0-1) since 2014 and owns a 7-1 all-time mark against Maryland at home while also owning a 21-6 lead in the series between the two proud wrestling programs.
All fans will receive a FREE team poster at Fitzgerald Field House on Monday evening.
Fans can also watch the Pitt-Maryland dual on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX) via the ESPN app.
