PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving teams are set to compete in the annual Ohio State Invitational this Thursday through Saturday (Nov. 18-20) at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Nearly the entire roster of Panthers will travel to the three-day meet to swim and dive against other student-athletes from top teams around the country including the 2021 Women's Big 10 Champions, host Ohio State, ACC foes Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and Miami, Indiana, Cincinnati, UCLA, Kenyon, Navy, and the reigning SEC Women's Champions, Kentucky.
For the first two days of competition, preliminaries will begin at 9:30 a.m. with finals starting at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, preliminaries will kick off at 8:30 a.m. and finals will conclude the event at 6:30 p.m. Each evening's finals will be available for streaming on BIG10+.
"The mid-season Ohio State Invitational is always a true test of where you are and how your fall has been from a training standpoint," head coach John Hargis said. "This is the best fall we've had in a long time and I am excited about where we are. Ohio State is going to be a very fast meet with some of the best from the Big 10 and Kentucky, who were SEC champs on the women's side. We are going to see some of the best competition there is to see and it will be a true test for our kids."
"This will be great experience and preparation for our athletes as we prepare for ACCs and NCAAs," head diving coach Katie Kasprzak said. "This invitational is one of the strongest in the NCAA and the depth of the competition is huge. Our divers will be competing against ACC & NCAA Champions, as well as Olympic medalists. Our team's goal for this meet is to focus on what they can control, set themselves clear goals, and dive with the confidence we have seen in previous meets."
For the men, Marcin Goraj, Jerry Chen, Serhii Ahadzhanian, and Trent Russano pace the way for swimming, while freshman diver Cameron Cash looks to continue his strong start to his collegiate career along with teammate Dylan Reed.
On the women's side, captain Daisy Anderson continues her strong individual campaign, coming off two individual wins against George Washington in the 100 and 200 Back events. Graduate transfer, Sarah-Helen Shepherd, as well as freshman Janelle Schulz have been impact newcomers as well. Diver Amy Read, who has earned at least one NCAA Zone Cut during each meet so far, looks to continue her dominance across all events for the Panthers.
