PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field programs will compete in seven regular season and two postseason meets as part of their 2021-22 indoor schedule, as announced by head coach Alonzo Webb Monday afternoon.
The Panthers will open up their indoor campaign Friday, Dec. 3 as they travel to Ohio for the Youngstown State Icebreaker at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS). After a month hiatus, Pitt will return to action Saturday, Jan. 15 as they head to in-state rival Penn State for the Nittany Lion Challenge held at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
Pitt will then travel down south for their biggest test of the indoor campaign Jan. 28-29 as they compete in the Razorback Invitational hosted by national power Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The Razorbacks women's program won the indoor national championship in 2021 while their men's program posted a seventh place finish at the championship meet.
February will begin with a pair of trips to fellow ACC schools as the Panthers head to Blacksburg, VA for the Virginia Tech Elite Meet Feb. 4-5 and the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, SC Feb. 11-12. The following weekend, Feb. 18-19, Pitt concludes their regular season slate with some athletes going to the JDL DMR Invitational in Winston-Salem, NC and the rest of the squad heading to the Virginia Tech Challenge.
Pitt begins postseason action Feb. 24-26 with the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Virginia Tech at the Rector Field House. The Pitt men will be looking to improve on their program record finish from last season, tied for fourth, while the women will search to improve on their 13th place finish in the championship meet a season ago.
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted this year by the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Mar. 11-12. The meet will take place in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
