PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team opens its 2021-22 dual campaign this weekend with a pair of away matchups against programs from the Mid-American Conference.
Pitt, ranked No. 15 to begin the season by the NWCA Coaches Poll, faces Buffalo on Friday night at Alumni Arena before heading to Edinboro for a Saturday contest at McComb Field House.
Both duals are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Fans can follow the Pitt-Buffalo dual on ESPN+.
Starting his fifth season at the helm of his alma mater, head coach Keith Gavin leads the Panthers into a highly anticipated campaign that see Pitt return all five of its 2021 NCAA qualifiers to the team.
Pitt heads to Buffalo with a 3-2 all-time record in wrestling against the Bulls (0-1), who are coached by ninth-year former MAC Coach of the Year John Stutzman.
The Panthers are 13-16 in the series with the in-state rival Fighting Scots (0-0), but Pitt has beaten Edinboro each of the last three head-to-head battles, with the most recent victory coming in 2016.
Some of Pitt's wrestlers competed last weekend, including Clarion Open champion Hunter Kernan; but for others, such as returning NCAA finalists Jake Wentzel and Nino Bonaccorsi, this weekend will mark their season debuts.
Here are the Pitt probables for the Friday and Saturday duals at Buffalo and Edinboro, respectively:

133: #5 Micky Phillippi (0-0)
