PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team announced the signing of local star Aislin Malcolm to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday afternoon. Malcolm is the lone member of the Panthers' 2022 signing class.
"I'm so excited to add Aislin to our team," expressed head coach Lance White. "She is a proven winner who excels at everything she does. Aislin is the epitome of what I want this program to be, both on the court and off the court. She's one of the most decorated players to come out of Western PA in a very long time and the success she has achieved at the high school level will only continue here at home at Pitt."
Malcolm, a four star recruit, is entering her senior season at local power Chartiers Valley High School where she helped lead her squad to a state record 64-game winning streak to start her high school career. The lethal shooter has secured three WPIAL championships while also earning the PIAA State title as a freshman in 2019 and PIAA state runner-up as a junior in 2021. For her career, Malcolm has accumulated 1,270 points while connecting on 197 three-pointers.
Ranked by ESPN as the No. 98 recruit in the country and the No. 3 recruit in the state of Pennsylvania, Malcolm will be staying close to home and playing for the Panthers. She is the second top-100 recruit for Pitt since Lance White took over the program prior to the 2018-19 campaign joining sophomore Tracey Hueston (No. 73).
The talented shooting guard had a sensation junior season as she was named Pennsylvania Class 5A State Player of the Year and First Team All-State for the second straight season after averaging a career-high 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals while connecting on 65 three-pointers. She helped lead her squad to the WPIAL title for the third straight season and a runner-up finish at the state tournament.
"Aislin's ability to shoot the basketball separates her from everyone else in the country and it immediately extends the perimeter for opposing defenses," said White. "She is one of the most accurate shooters I've watched in a long time and she can also handle the ball from any of the guard spots on the court. Her vision and her length on the perimeter will be a huge assets for our team moving forward."
Malcolm opened up her career with 57 straight victories through her first two seasons. She helped her squad post a perfect 30-0 record while winning the WPIAL and State Championships during her freshman campaign. As a sophomore, she earned First Team All-State honors as Chartiers Valley finished off another unblemished season as they went 27-0 and won the WPIAL title.
The Pittsburgh native also earned an invite to the prestigious Coach Wootten Top 150 Camp this summer where she was one of just 50 juniors invited.
Off the court, Malcolm is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Honor Society and a High Honor Roll member while also ranking seventh in her class. She was named 2021 Western PA Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year and the 2021 Tribune Review Outstanding Citizen Award.
