PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving is hosting a diving only dual meet with Duquesne's women team Saturday starting at 11 a.m., diving head coach Katie Hazelton announced Thursday. Pitt's men's diving team will also compete in the meet.
With only the springboard events scheduled, the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter are slated for the first hour followed by the men's 3-meter and women's 1-meter in the next hour.
The diving squads competed last Wednesday at Morgantown, W.Va. in the Backyard Brawl in the first official competition of the 2020-21 season. Both the men and women played vital parts in the sweep of the Mountaineers.
Amy Read shattered the women's platform diving record, earning first-place and scoring 289.65 points. Serena Buchwald finished second in the platform with a personal-best mark of 260.18, just five points shy of the original school record set by Krista Jones in 2019. Claire McDaniels, in the first dive of her Pitt career, placed fourth (247.50).
In the women's 3-meter, Buchwald took second (296.18) while McDaniels placed third (280.35). In the final event of the afternoon, Reed took home first again, this time in the 1-meter dive with a mark of 297.38. Pitt swept the podium, as Buchwald placed second with a personal-best of 291.60 while McDaniels finished third, scoring 283.73.
For the men, Dylan Reed earned first in the 3-meter with a personal-best score of 406.28, while Jackson Salisbury placed third in his first diving event as a Panther (354.00). In the platform, the Panthers placed three in the top-five as Nate Keller earned second (309.45), Salisbury third (284.63) and Reed fourth with a personal best mark of 283.73. Reed placed a team-best fourth in the 1-meter dive, scoring a total of 302.25 points.
The Panthers look to strengthen their postseason aspirations as they earned 16 qualifications for the NCAA Zone Diving Meet at the A, B or C cut last week.
No fans are allowed to attend the meet. Updates are available on Saturday through the team's twitter account, @Pitt_Swim_Dive, with full results available after the meet.
