PITTSBURGH – Head Coach Jodi Hermanek added another player to the 2020-21 roster in Akron transfer Bailey Drapola today.
"We are thrilled to add Bailey to our 2020 roster," said Hermanek. "Bailey's training, dedication and academic values align her with our program's core values. Her athleticism and skill set on the field and at the plate compliments the way we train and compete."
The sophomore joins Pitt after an impressive first year with the Zips in a shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 24 games, Drapola led Akron in hits (26), doubles (8) and finished second on the team with a .347 batting average. Her 16 runs tied for first and her four home runs were third on the squad this past spring. Drapola also tallied a .640 slugging percentage and a 1.012 OPS while adding seven RBI and 48 total bases. The shortstop also led the team with 41 assists.
"I'm very thankful for the coaches giving me this opportunity," said Drapola. "I'm so excited to get to work with my teammates and be a part of this program. H2P!"
Her numbers cracked multiple top-10 categories in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), as she tied for second in doubles, fourth in total bases, tied for sixth in hits and runs.
Drapola, a native of Brookfield, Ohio, attended Brookfield High School where she was a four year varsity letter winner. She was a four-time All-AAC First Team selection, three-time First Team All-NEO honoree, an All-State Second Team member as a junior and an All-State First Team selection as a senior.
Drapola joins incoming freshmen Kaitlyn Burdick, Jack Busch, Cameron Compson, Dani Drogemuller and Yanna Marrow as the sixth player to join the Panthers for the 2021 season. In addition, seniors Walker Barbee and Connor McGaffic will return for a fifth year, exercising their extra year of eligibility granted from the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
