Senior All-Americans Selected as 2020 Team Leaders
PITTSBURGH – Seniors Kayla Lund and Chinaza Ndee will serve as 2020 captains for the three-time defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion University of Pittsburgh volleyball team, as announced Friday.
"Kayla [Lund] and Chinaza [Ndee] are great leaders and even better humans," head coach Dan Fisher said. "They've proven their leadership and over the last three years, especially this past year. I have the utmost faith in these two seniors as our captains."
Lund and Ndee are the Panthers' two returning All-Americans, honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in 2019. Lund, the reigning ACC Player of the Year, tied Pitt volleyball's highest individual honor by being named to the Second Team. Ndee earned the first All-American honor of her career as an Honorable Mention.
"During these unprecedented times leadership is especially important and I'm honored to represent our team as a captain," Lund said. "At the same time, we are a team with so many leaders. Our team is filled with intelligent, courageous, hardworking and compassionate women that inspire me to be a better captain every day."
In 2019 the duo were Pitt's top two on the stat sheet in kills, producing a combined 6.42 kills per set. Together they contributed nearly half of the team's kill production (43.8 percent).
"I'm so grateful to be able to represent this awesome group as a captain this year," Ndee said. "As we navigate through uncertainty, I am proud of how this team has continued to remain adaptable while strengthening relationships and practicing gratitude. I am excited to enjoy the journey with these inspiring women and our entire Pitt volleyball family in whatever form it takes."
Lund, an outside hitter, and Ndee, a right side, are both two-time members of the All-ACC Academic Team.
