PITTSBURGH – Freshman Dominic Reiter, who enrolled to the university in January, was named 2019-20 Gatorade Pennsylvania Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguished Reiter as Pennsylvania's best high school boys soccer player.
A Sewickley, Pa., native, Reiter attended Quaker Valley High School where in his final semester during the fall, led the Quakers to a 24-2 record and the Class 2A state championship. He registered 55 goals and 24 assists on the season while tallying a goal and an assist in the Class 2A state championship match victory. For his career at Quaker Valley, he posted 85 goals and 53 assists.
"It feels great to win this award and I am thankful for the coaches and teammates who made this possible," said Reiter. "But now, I am focused on how I can contribute at Pitt and better the team in any way I can."
Reiter graduated high school early and joined the Panthers for the spring semester, adding to a Pitt team who finished off their historic campaign with a 10-8-2 overall record. The Panthers earned their first at-large berth to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship since 1965 while also posting their first victory, 2-0 over Lehigh, in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
Along with Gatorade Player of the Year for Pennsylvania, Reiter was also named the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Player of the Year for both the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Tribune Review back in the fall. He is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award, which will be announced later this month.
