Pitman Joins Panthers After Playing at Siena, Binghamton
PITTSBURGH – Head lacrosse coach Emily Boissonneault announced the addition of transfer Therese Pitman to the Panthers' growing roster.
"I am so excited to add Therese Pitman to our first class of athletes," Boissonneault said. "As a student-athlete entering her final semester as COVID-19 hit, she sees Pitt as an opportunity to push herself to greater heights. That is exactly the type of attitude and leaders we want surrounding our program. On the field, she is a scrappy and tough defender that will help us set a strong standard and culture for our young team."
Pitman will redshirt the 2020-21 year in preparation for the inaugural season in the spring of 2022.
"I am excited to be a part of the inaugural women's lacrosse program at Pitt," said Pitman. "The start of something new always brings with it great lessons. I am energized by the level of play the ACC has to offer; the opportunity to compete against the best competition in the nation is a challenge I am willing to accept alongside my new teammates."
Pitman, a defender hailing from Sherrill, N.Y., had a standout junior campaign while at Siena. She was named All-MAAC First Team on Defense, MAAC All-Tournament Team, and played and started in all 19 games for the Saints. Pitman also netted three goals, led the team in caused turnovers (23), ranked second in draw controls (39) and fourth in ground balls (37).
Prior to her time at Siena, Pitman spent her first two seasons at Binghamton where she played in 13 total games.
Pitman attended Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School where she finished as the all-time leading scorer. She helped VVS qualify for the sectional playoffs in the team's first two years as a varsity program. Pitman was a three-sport scholar-athlete all four years of high school and won numerous awards and scholarships.
While at Pitt, Pitman will pursue her master's in Public Administration with a major in Public and Nonprofit Management.
Pitman is the first transfer on the lacrosse roster and becomes the 10th member of the program.
