Dear Pittsburgh,
My time has come. I have achieved one of my many life goals. I am officially a college graduate and what better place do it than at the University of Pittsburgh. Though my time at Pitt was short, the Pittsburgh community has done nothing but accepted me with open arms. Because of the love and support, my time at Pitt will never be forgotten.
Before coming to Pitt, I had no idea what to expect. I was leaving a university smaller than most high schools and had never been to a big university. Stepping on campus for the first time gave me the excitement as if it was my first day of grade school. I was quickly able to adjust because of being surrounded by my great coaching staff and teammates.
With them, I have created so many great memories and now have adopted a new family. I love the times we've spent together in the practice room, around campus, and on the road competing at other schools. We have grown so much as a team, trailblazing, leaving new standards for those to come to chase and hopefully exceed one day.
I also want to give a special thank you to the Cathy and John Pelusi Life Skills Department. You all have supported me with my journey at Pitt and given me the tools and necessary attributes to be successful in life after sports. I am forever thankful!
To the fans of Pittsburgh, you all have been nothing but extraordinary! I have never experienced a fan base that has been so supportive and has such high energy! All of the matches that came down to the wire, with you all cheering us on made competing at Pitt that much more special. Because of this, these have been the two best years of my life so far.
My years as a student-athlete did not end the way I intended, but it was bittersweet. In my first year competing for Pitt, I got the opportunity to compete for a national championship in front of the entire city, which was such a cool experience! Also, my last match at Pitt was winning my second ACC championship in the Pete. I even have the privilege and honor to be etched in stone alongside Pitt's greatest like Larry Fitzgerald, Dan Marino, Aaron Donald, and you can't forget the legend himself, Keith Gavin, in the Varsity Walk.
I am so glad to forever be a Panther and represent the blue and gold.
Thank you and as always Hail to Pitt,
Demetrius Thomas
