Pitzer Advances to Round of 12, Panthers Wrap Up at NCAA Championships

CLEVELAND – Pitt wrapped up competition in Session Four of the NCAA Championships, battling through the consolation rounds and sending one wrestler to the Round of 12.
Dayton Pitzer led the way for the Panthers, becoming the lone wrestler to advance to the Round of 12. Pitzer opened with a dominant 19-4 technical fall over Jack Forbes (Utah Valley) in Session Three before adding a 10-1 defeat against Ohio State's Nick Feldman to move within one win of All-America honors.
In the blood round, Pitzer battled Oklahoma State's Konnor Doucet in a tightly contested match. They were scoreless through the first period, and Doucet took a 1-0 lead with an escape in the second. Doucet secured a pin in the final 38 seconds to earn the victory.
In the third session, Dylan Evans picked up a key win in the wrestlebacks, earning a 4-2 decision over Minnesota's Charlie Millard to stay alive in the bracket. In his second match of the session, he battled back from an 7-0 deficit after the first period but dropped 9-5 to Kai Owen of Columbia.
At 197, Mac controlled his opening match of the session, building a 9-3 lead before securing riding time for a 10-3 win. He later dropped a 4-1 decision to Maryland's Branson John, who used a late third-period takedown to secure the win
At 165 pounds, Jared Keslar was locked in a tight bout with Ohio State's Paddy Gallagher. Keslar evened the match at 1-1 with a third-period escape, but Gallagher secured the riding time point late to take a narrow 2-1 decision.
Luca Augustine faced a tough test against No. 8 seed Alex Facundo, dropping a hard-fought 4-3 decision to close out his collegiate career. Chase Kranitz battled into sudden victory but ultimately fell 4-1 in extra time.
