Tyler Badgett to Join Panthers in 2020
PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh head wrestling coach Keith Gavin announced the signing of Tyler Badgett as the final member of the 2020 recruiting class.
"We are very excited to add Tyler to this recruiting class," said Gavin. "He's a tough, talented wrestler. We think Tyler has a high ceiling in this sport and we look forward to getting him on campus."
Badgett, who wrestled at 152 pounds as a junior and senior in high school, is ranked No. 8 in the country by FloWrestling and No. 7 by InterMat.
"I chose Pitt because I know the coaches will be there for me on and off the mat," said Badgett. "I love the direction the program has been going and I know the coaches are going to help me reach my goal of winning national titles."
The San Diego native is a two-time California state runner-up and finished in the top-12 all four years of high school. Badgett ended his high school campaign with a 183-34 career record.
Also finding success in the club circuit, Badgett finished in first place at the Greco State Championship as a junior, first in freestyle state and the Greco Western Regionals as a sophomore and third at freestyle state his freshman year.
Badgett joins an impressive Pitt wrestling class that includes two members off FloWrestling's Senior Big Board in No. 50 Mick Burnett of Elyria, Ohio, and 81st-ranked Colby Whitehill of Brookeville, Pa.
