Pitt Drops First Game of Series to Clemson

CLEMSON – The Pitt softball team fell to Clemson, 9-1 in five innings, at the Clemson Softball Stadium Friday afternoon.
Pitt fell to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in the ACC, while Clemson improved to 17-7 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Clemson also extended its winning streak to nine games with the victory.
Junior Hunter Levesque and senior Kaitlyn Kruger each tallied a single in the top of the first, but the Panthers couldn't bring a run in. Clemson scored its first run with a RBI double to left field from Alia Logoleo in the bottom of the second. The Tigers added two runs in the next at-bat as Bailey Taylor hit a two-run homer to left field, making it a 3-0 game.
The Tigers added two in the third as Hannah Goodwin singled to short and MK Bonamy singled through the left side, each bringing in a run. Logoleo drew a bases loaded walk, making it a 6-0 contest. Taylor hit an RBI single to left (7-0) and the Tigers ended the frame with four runs.
In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Kayla Lane singled to third, bringing in senior Connor McGaffic for the first RBI of her career. Pitt trailed 7-1 after four. Clemson scored two (9-1) with an RBI double to right center off the bat of Bonamy in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman Becca Miller took the loss, striking out two over two innings and giving up four hits and four earned runs.
Lane finished 1-for-2 with an RBI. The top of the order of sophomore Katlyn Pavlick, Levesque and Kruger each had a single, while junior Morgan Batesole also recorded a single.

- Levesque's single in the first extended her hitting streak to seven games, while Kaitlyn Kruger's single in the first extended her streak to six games.
- Lane started at shortstop for the first time in her career (fifth start overall). Lane's RBI was the first of her career in the fourth inning.
