Pitt Gymnastics Records Season-Best Scores on Vault, Bars, Beam
CEDAR CITY, UTAH – The Pitt gymnastics team (5-6, 2-3 EAGL) recorded a season-best team score of 196.000 in a dual meet at No. 21 Southern Utah (5-5, 2-3 MRGC) Monday night at America First Event Center.
Despite the season-best score, the Panthers were edged by the Thunderbirds, 197.075-196.000.
Pitt had season-best scores on three events: vault (49.050), bars (48.850) and beam (49.075).
Two Panthers reached the podium: senior Michaela Burton placed second on beam (9.875) and third on bars (9.850). Freshman Emily Liszewski had a career performance on vault, placing second at 9.850.
BARS
The Panthers opened with a season-best bars score of 48.850, led by Burton, who placed third with a 9.850. For the second consecutive meet, freshman Ciara Ward posted a career-best 9.825 on the event.
VAULT
Pitt extended its strong start into the second event, posting another season-best score of 49.050 on vault. Liszewski led Pitt with a career-best 9.850, placing second overall. Ward followed up with another career-high score, posting a 9.825. Sophomore Olivia Miller reached a season-high 9.800.
FLOOR
Burton led the Panthers with a career high-tying 9.875 on floor. Classmate Alecia Petrikis followed with a 9.825, and Miller and Ward each posted 9.800. As a squad, Pitt stayed above 49 with a 49.025, recording a three-rotation score of 146.925.
BEAM
Pitt finished strong, with two Panthers recording career-best scores. Senior Deven Herbine picked up a 9.850, and Miller tied her best with a 9.800. Burton led the way with a 9.875 to close the meet, as the Panthers picked up a season-best score of 196.000.
UP NEXT
Pitt will visit Morgantown, W.Va., for a tri-meet against Rutgers and host West Virginia Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m. ET.
