PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team announced the non-conference portion of their 2020-21 schedule on Friday morning. The Panthers will play host to each of their non-conference matchups at the Petersen Events Center.
Pitt will open up their 2020-21 schedule in just under two weeks as they welcome George Mason to the Pete for a 12:00 pm tip. The meeting with the Patriots will be the second game between the two squads with the Panthers winning the previous matchup.
Next up, the Panthers will host a team with multiple familiar faces as they take on the Hofstra Pride on Sunday, Nov. 29. The Pride are led by former Pitt associate head coach Danielle Santos Atkinson who is in her second season as head coach. The Hofstra roster also has a pair of former Pitt players who left via transfer in Jaala Henry (following 2018-19 season) and Jahsyni Knight (following 2019-20 season).
The non-conference portion of the schedule will wrap up on Dec. 6 as the Panthers welcome the Delaware Blue Hens to the Pete. Pitt has owned the all-time series against Delaware, 4-0, including a 64-57 victory over the Blue Hens in their last meeting in 2006.
The Panthers will play a 23-game schedule after the announcement of the 2020-21 ACC schedule this past Wednesday. Pitt will play a total of 20 conference games, a two-game bump from a season ago, and three non-conference contests this season.
Pitt returns eight of their top nine scorers from a season ago including six players who started at least seven games during the 2019-20 campaign. Dayshanette Harris will be looking to build on a strong freshman season that saw her lead the Panthers in scoring (12.7 ppg), assists (2.6 apg) and steals (1.8 spg) while earning All-ACC Freshman Team honors. The other three parts of the highest scoring freshman class in program history, Amber Brown (9.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg), Emy Hayford (4.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg) and Rita Igbokwe (4.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg) will all be looking to take another step in development and lead the young squad to success.
