Panthers Sweep Weekend Series Against Eagles
PITTSBURGH – Senior captains Chinaza Ndee and Kayla Lund combined for 33 of Pitt volleyball's 51 kills on the night to lead the No. 11 Panthers (2-2, 2-2 ACC) to a sweep of Boston College (0-4, 0-4 ACC) Saturday at Fitzgerald Field House.
Pitt earned the victory by scores of 25-10, 25-23, 25-19.
Ndee led Pitt with 17 kills on a career-best hitting percentage of .739 (17-0-23). Lund followed with 16 kills, producing a combined total of 5.86 kills per set over Pitt's two matches against the Eagles.
In a starting role, redshirt freshman outside hitter Valeria Vazquez Gomez contributed six kills, three assists, 10 digs and three blocks.
Sophomore setter Lexis Akeo had a team-high 26 assists for Pitt and added seven digs. Senior libero Marija Popovic led the Panthers with 13 digs, and junior middle blocker Sabrina Starks had a season-best six blocks.
Pitt dominated nearly every stat line, including kills (51-28), assists (47-26), service aces (5-2), digs (47-24) and hitting percentage (.323-.111). Boston College had more blocks (11.0-10.0).

Set One: No. 11 Pitt 25, Boston College 10
Pitt hit the ground running with a 7-0 start to the first frame. The Panthers earned a double-figure lead (15-4), following a 4-0 run, and cruised to a 25-10 win. Pitt hit .565 in the first frame while holding Boston College to a negative clip at -.080.
Set Two: No. 11 Pitt 25, Boston College 23
The second set was much closer, with nine ties and four lead changes. Boston College took an 11-8 lead after a 5-0 run, but Pitt was able to steal it back (14-12) after a 6-1 run. The latest tie was at 22, but the Panthers were able to hold on thanks to some hot serving by Akeo to go up, 2-0, with a 25-23 win.
Set Three: No. 11 Pitt 25, Boston College 19
Pitt led by as many as nine, up 20-11 late in the third. However, the Eagles responded with a 7-2 run to cut the margin to four (22-18). Two kills from Ndee and one from Vazquez Gomez were able to close the book for Pitt with a 25-19 win and 3-0 sweep.

No. 11 Pitt will complete its fall 2020 road schedule with a trip to Notre Dame, Ind., to face the No. 5 Fighting Irish Friday and Sunday, Oct. 16 and 18.
