Panthers Earn First Win in State College Since 1980
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 6 Pitt volleyball team (11-0) swept No. 4 Penn State (6-2) at Rec Hall Friday night (25-17, 25-21, 25-23), marking the Panther's first win against the Nittany Lions since 1987.
The win was Pitt's first when playing in Happy Valley since 1980. According to NCAA records, the sweep was the first for Penn State in home non-conference play since 1986.
Junior outside Kayla Lund powered the Pitt offense with 14 kills, and classmate Chinaza Ndee contributed 12 on .611 hitting, with one error. Redshirt senior Stephanie Williams was one kill away from her fourth consecutive double-double, with nine kills and a team-high 10 digs.
The Panthers had the upper hand across the stat sheet, in kills (45-34), assists (43-33), service aces (4-2), digs (39-32) and blocks (8.5-6.5). Pitt held the Nittany Lions to .129 hitting for the night, while the Panthers hit .337.

- Pitt's earned its highest-ranked victory in program history. The Panthers' previous record was a 3-2 upset of No. 5 Notre Dame on Nov. 6, 2005.
- The Panthers snapped a 16-match slump against the Nittany Lions. Pitt's last win against Penn State was Nov. 8, 1987 (3-0) at Fitzgerald Field House.
- Pitt earned its first win when playing in University Park, Pa., since Oct. 4, 1980, snapping an 18-match losing streak.
- The Panthers' record improved to 28-1 when ranked inside the AVCA top 10 and 10-0 when ranked No. 6.
