Pitt’s Van Buskirk to Represent Team Canada at Pan Am Games

Middle Blocker to Compete in Lima, Peru
PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh middle blocker Layne Van Buskirk has been named to the Canadian Women's National Volleyball Team's 12-player roster for the upcoming Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru, Aug. 7-11.
"I'm excited to represent my country at such a major tournament," Van Buskirk said. "I know it's going to be an experience that I will never forget. I'm also looking forward to getting back into competition mode right before my season at Pitt. Competing amongst these countries' best players is only going to further prepare me to have a great senior season with the Panthers."
Team Canada will play its first match of the tournament against host Peru Wednesday, Aug. 7, with more details to follow.
"Layne [Van Buskirk] has worked really hard on her game over the last three years to put herself in a position to represent her country," Pitt head coach Dan Fisher said. "The Pan Am Games were one of my best coaching experiences and I'm sure she will feel the same way. The Olympic-type, multi-team environment with a high level of competition will be an unforgettable experience for her. We also think that this journey will help her become an even better volleyball player for Pitt her senior year."
A Windsor, Ontario, native, Van Buskirk has been training with the Canadian Women's National Team since May. She will return to Pittsburgh to begin her senior season with the Panthers in mid-August.
Pitt's annual Blue-Gold intrasquad scrimmage is set for Saturday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. Admission is free to all.
PITT VOLLEYBALL FLEX SEASON TICKETS
Pitt volleyball flex season tickets are on sale for $45 (a $100 value), and groups of 15 or more will receive admission for $3 per ticket. Flex tickets can be used traditionally (one ticket for each match) or in any combination (two tickets for six matches, four tickets for three matches, etc.). During home tournaments, one ticket will allow entry for all matches on that day.
