Corcoran, O’Farrell Earn Academic Recognition
PITTSBURGH – Two University of Pittsburgh baseball student-athletes have earned postseason academic recognition, as Billy Corcoran and Bryce O'Farrell were named to the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team, announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
The pair become the 12th and 13th players in program history to land on the ACC's All-Academic team, marking the fourth straight year Pitt has placed multiple student-athletes.
Corcoran made an immediate impact in his rookie campaign, earning a role in the weekend rotation. He led all starters with a 3.80 ERA, making 20 appearances, including 11 starts. In his 68.2 innings, the Malvern Prep graduate recorded 54 strikeouts, earning victories over ACC foes Virginia Tech and nationally-ranked Georgia Tech.
O'Farrell held down the starting role at first base for a majority of the season, appearing in all 53 games and collecting 49 starts. The Canadian sophomore concluded the year with the team's third highest average, hitting .266 with 10 doubles and two homers, tallying 30 RBI and a .383 on base mark.
In order to quality for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, student-athletes must have a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered.
