Hanging up the Cleats
Written By: Marissa DeMatteo
Dear Softball,
Where do I even begin? If I could sit here and write an infinite amount of pages on you I would, but that's not possible, is it?
All the blood, sweat and tears will never be forgotten or overlooked. Throughout the years, the countless amount of hours I spent on your watch seemed to pass quicker than it should have. The early morning lifts and practices are now a distant memory. Although I complained of those early mornings then, I wish I had them back now.
Thank you for molding me into the person I am today - a person with drive, discipline and integrity. A person who will now know how to tackle adversity when faced with it - because adversity is inevitable in this lifetime. Thank you for allowing me to form sisterhoods that will last forever. I have no idea what I would do if I never met these amazing girls; they too have formed me into the person I am meant to be, and I will always strive to be better because of them.
Through numerous injuries and all, I wouldn't have changed my experience for the world. Softball is so much more than just a game, it's a way of life, and I am blessed to have done it for over half of my existence.
Hanging up the cleats for the last time is never easy, but knowing you've hung them up with love, passion and respect means everything.
Forever thankful,
Marissa DeMatteo
