Lessons Learned and Memories Made
Written By: Alexis Solak
Dear Softball,
I started playing you when I was just six years old and hung up my cleats on May 5, 2019. You gave me 15 years of incredible memories. It began with a little girl at her neighborhood block party, a piñata, a stick… and one great swing! That experience opened the door to my career and a lifetime of memories.
Through it all, I've been incredibly blessed in more ways than I could ever have imagined. From Lisle Park District to Naperville Diamonds, Bulls Sox Academy, Illinois Sparks, Naperville North HS, the Chill Gold (thank you Gerry!) and Pitt; thank you for giving me my home, an opportunity to travel all over the U.S. and experience more cities than I can count, and for a scholarship and business information's degree from a Division I ACC top-rated academic university.
Most especially, I appreciate the constant support from my family, friends, teammates, coaches, professors, fans and mentor Justin Stone. There are so many life lessons I've taken away from you and everyone else I've met along the way… hard work and practice pays off, you have to set goals, feedback isn't always pretty but it's necessary, never give up no matter what life pitches you, keep learning, always swing like it matters, and the power of teamwork and positivity are keys to achieving success.
All these lessons (and more), highs, lows and in-betweens have made me the person I am today. You helped me realize that I'm stronger and braver than I think… and ready to take on the amazing challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
As always… Hail to Pitt!
