Pitt Splits Doubleheader with Saint Francis

Panthers and Red Flash Split Tuesday Doubleheader
LORETTO, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team split its doubleheader with Saint Francis Tuesday afternoon at the Red Flash Softball Field.
The Panthers earned a 6-4 victory in game one before dropping its second contest of the day by a score of 11-3.
Freshman Abby Edwards earned the start in Pitt's first matchup of the day, recording the complete-game win while allowing just one earned run and striking out two.
Offensively, the Panthers recorded eight hits from six different players. Senior Alexis Solak and junior Alexee Haynes both provided a big boost to Pitt's offense, with each player blasting two home runs in the contest. Senior Gabrielle Fredericks, junior Connor McGaffic, sophomore Morgan Batesole and freshman Sarah Seamans each added one hit apiece in the matchup.
For game two, Pitt saw four different players on the rubber in Edwards, Haynes, senior Taylor Rahach and redshirt sophomore Brittany Knight. The quartet combined to allow six earned runs while striking out one in six innings of work.
At the plate, the Panthers posted six hits in the contest from four different players. Sophomore Hunter Levesque led the squad with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, adding two runs and one RBI. Batesole, Fredericks and senior Olivia Gray also contributed one hit each in the matchup.
SCORING SUMMARY – GAME ONE
Pitt opened the scoring in game one via a leadoff long ball from Haynes in the top of the second.
Saint Francis answered in the bottom of the inning, using a solo shot to left center to tie the contest.
The Panthers regained their lead in the fifth frame, with Gray using a sac fly to score senior Taylor Myers and put the game at 2-1.
The Red Flash again answered in the bottom of the inning, collecting three runs in the frame to jump out to a 4-2 lead.
Pitt tied the game in the top of the sixth, using back-to-back home runs by Solak and Haynes to make it 4-4.
The game remained tied heading into the seventh inning before Solak blasted her second long ball of the game, sending a two-run shot over the left field wall to give Pitt a 6-4 advantage and the eventual win.
SCORING SUMMARY – GAME TWO
Pitt again opened the scoring in game two, with Levesque sending a solo shot over the left field wall in the first inning to give the Panthers an early lead.
The Red Flash got their bats going in the second inning, collecting six runs in the frame to earn a 6-1 advantage.
The Panthers added two in the third frame, with Fredericks roping a single up the middle to send home Levesque and Gray.
Pitt went scoreless from there, with Saint Francis collecting five more runs in the matchup to earn the eventual run-rule win.

The Panthers will head to Atlanta, Ga., for a three-game ACC series against Georgia Tech beginning Friday, April 12.
