HOW IT WORKS
- The 2019 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships regional selections were announced by the NCAA Monday, March 25.
- The top 36 teams based on national qualifying score (NQS) were selected for regional competition. The committee named the top 16 teams and seeded them in the bracket. Seeding determined at the time of selections will be maintained through the championship. Teams 17-36 were placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Nine teams will compete at each of the four regional sites.
- The committee also selected the top 12 all-around competitors and top 16 event specialists based on national qualifying scores and placed them geographically into one of the four regional sites, keeping individuals from the same team together.
WHAT'S ON THE LINE
- The top event specialist at each of the four regional sites who is not part of an advancing team or all-around competitor will advance to the national championships in that event only.
- The national championships will take place April 19-20 in Fort Worth, Texas, at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena.
ALL SIGNS POINT WEST
- West will compete at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships for the first time in her career, after having to sit out the Panthers' appearance at the meet in 2018 due to injury.
- A Clermont, Fla., native, West holds a team-best NQS on beam of 9.845. She earned season-best scores of 9.875 twice, and earned two individual titles during the 2019 regular season. West was named to the All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) First Team for beam for the first time her career prior to the Saturday's EAGL Championship meet.
PITT AT THE NCAA REGIONAL
- The Panthers will be represented at the NCAA Regional for the 15th consecutive year, and for the 24th time in the last 25 seasons (missing only the 2004 season).
- West is the first individual qualifier for Pitt since Taylor Laymon (bars) and Tracey Pearson (vault) competed at the 2017 NCAA Regional in Morgantown, W.Va.
- West is the first to qualify on beam since Lindsay Offutt competed in the all-around in 2016, eventually reaching the NCAA National Championship.
