West, Bonaccorsi Honored as Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week

Gymnastics, Wrestling Student-Athletes Receive Weekly Honors
PITTSBURGH – Brittany West of gymnastics and Nino Bonaccorsi of wrestling were named the University of Pittsburgh Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
As announced on Monday's NCAA Selection Show, West was chosen as one of the top 16 event specialists in the nation on balance beam, and will represent the University of Pittsburgh at the 2019 National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships. The Clermont, Fla., native will compete at the regional for the first time in her career, after having to sit out the Panthers' appearance at the meet in 2018 due to injury.
The senior gymnast holds a team-best NQS on beam of 9.845. She earned season-best scores of 9.875 twice, and was awarded two individual titles during the 2019 regular season. West was named to the All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) First Team for beam for the first time her career prior to the Saturday's EAGL Championship meet.
She was placed at the Athens, Ga., regional site and will compete Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m. inside Stegeman Coliseum.
Bonaccorsi entered the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championships at PPG Paints Arena as the No. 13 seed in the 184-pound weight class. The redshirt freshman was able to outperform his seeding while also pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the three-day event (March 21-23). Bonaccorsi used an attacking style to defeat No. 20 seed Will Sumner of Utah Valley in his opening match, 11-4, and then knocked off No. 4 seed Emery Parker of Illinois via 9-7 decision to advance to the quarterfinals. In his NCAA Championships debut, the Bethel Park, Pa., native came up just one win short of earning All-America honors after being eliminated in the Round of 12, finishing the tournament tied for ninth at 184 pounds.
