
Pitt Places Fourth at 2019 EAGL Championship

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (9-19, 1-6 EAGL) placed fourth at the 2019 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship, hosted by the University of New Hampshire at Whittemore Center Saturday afternoon.
Pitt earned a team score of 194.900, placing ahead of North Carolina (193.950) and Towson (193.450). The host Wildcats earned the team victory at 195.950, followed by George Washington (195.825) and NC State (195.275). Pitt's overall score was its third-highest of the 2019 season.
Freshman Olivia Miller earned third place in the all-around competition with a score of 39.025, and sophomore Haley Brechwald followed in sixth at 38.475.
BARS
Miller led the Panthers with a 9.800 on bars, followed by Brechwald with a 9.750. Junior Rachel Dugan produced a 9.725, while sophomore Sophie Bochenek (9.700) and senior Lucy Brett (9.625) rounded out scoring for Pitt. As a team, the Panthers posted a score of 48.600 for the first rotation.
BEAM
Junior Deven Herbine and sophomore Jordan Ceccarini earned team-high scores of 9.750 for the Panthers on beam. Miller and senior Brittany West each recorded 9.725, and Brett completed scoring with a 9.700. In total, Pitt registered a 48.650 for the rotation to make a two-event score of 97.250.
FLOOR
Pitt continued to improve in the next competitive rotation, earning a season-high team score on floor at 49.100. Brechwald led the Panthers with a season-high 9.850, while Miller contributed a career-high 9.825. Ceccarini also earned a 9.825, and Bochenek and senior Charli Spivey posted scores of 9.800 to complete the event. Through three events, Pitt totaled 146.350.
VAULT
The Panthers ended the day on vault, with Petrikis the way with a 9.800. Spivey was next with a 9.750, while Miller and Herbine each recorded 9.675. Bocheneck rounded out scoring with a 9.650 to total 48.550 for Pitt.
