AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman diver Amy Read will represent the University of Pittsburgh at the 2019 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships the next two days at Texas' Jamail Swimming Center.
A native of Leeds, England, Read will compete on 3-meter springboard on Friday and the platform competition on Saturday as looks to contend for All-America honors against the nation's best.
"This will be an amazing experience for Amy to finish her freshman season," said Pitt diving coach Katie Hazelton, also a Leeds native. "She has had a great season with some ups and downs while admirably fighting through injuries and adversity. So the goal for this meet will be to have fun, be relaxed and hope that she can post scores that give her a chance to score points. It should be an awesome meet."
Read is the third Pitt diver to advance to NCAAs in Hazleton's two seasons with the Panthers, and she will also extend Pitt's streak of sending a diver to the national meet to five consecutive years.
Friday's 3-meter springboard competition is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. The consolation final will immediately follow for Honorable Mention All-America finishers placed ninth through 16th. First team All-Americans who qualify for the championship final will compete in the evening session scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Saturday's platform diving will begin at approximately 12:15 p.m. Consolation finalists will compete in the afternoon before championship finalists battle for the national title in the 6 p.m. session that will conclude the meet.
