PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field teams will continue their outdoor season on Friday afternoon as they head south to take part in the Florida State Relays at the Mike Long Track.

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field teams will continue their outdoor season on Friday afternoon as they head south to take part in the Florida State Relays at the Mike Long Track.

- The one-day event will begin at 9:30 am on Friday morning with the men's and women's hammer throw. Following a short break to recognize the FSU seniors, the event will continue with the men's and women's discus throw at 12:00 pm.
- Field events will wrap up around 5:00 pm with the men's and women's javelin.
- Track events will get started on Friday around 1:40 pm as the men's 110m hurdles will open things up followed by the women's 100m hurdles.
- The meet will conclude on Friday night around 7:10 pm with the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
- The Panthers opened up their 2019 outdoor season last weekend with the Yellow Jackets Invitational down in Atlanta, GA.
- Pitt took home three victories on the weekend with two individuals claiming gold and one relay.
- Senior Miranda Salvo had a strong showing during opening weekend as she claimed gold in the 1500m run. Salvo raced to victory in 4:27.58, nearly four seconds ahead of the second place finisher. She then took home third place in the 800m run with a time of 2:12.46.
- Grant Jones opened his outdoor season with a victory in the javelin as he notched a throw of 64.53m.
- The Panthers saw their women's 4x400m relay squad take home the gold medal as the quartet of Nikki Scherer, Breanna Phillips, Nina Crawford and Sydni Townsend crossed the line 3:45.24, just ahead of the team from Clemson.
- Sophomore Noah Walker had a good opening weekend in the field events for the Panthers as he was able to take home a pair of fourth place finishes in the hammer throw and discus. Walker produced a throw of 48.49m in the discus, the sixth best throw in program history, while finishing the hammer throw with a distance of 52.28m.
- In the 100m hurdles, Aysha Muhammad posted a great time of 14.10 seconds in the 100m, the eighth best in school history, as she took home sixth place.
- In the women's javelin throw, Alyssa Debski finished off her afternoon with a throw of 41.10m, the 10th best throw in program history, claiming eighth place.
- Pitt will return to the track next weekend as they head to Raleigh, NC to compete in the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State. The Raleigh Relays will be a two-day event beginning on Friday, March 29 and run through Saturday, March 30.
