Pitt Gymnastics to Face League-Leading Wolfpack
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (5-4, 1-2 EAGL) will take on current East Atlantic Gymnastics League [EAGL] leader and defending champion NC State (5-2, 2-0 EAGL) in a dual meet Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C.

LAST TIME OUT
- Senior Lucy Brett earned her first individual title of the year, winning the uneven bars with a season-high score of 9.850 as Pitt hosted a tri-meet against North Carolina and Temple Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House.
- The win is Brett's first since Jan. 20, 2018, when she claimed the victory on bars in a home dual meet against New Hampshire.
- The Owls earned the team win with a score of 194.200, followed by the Tar Heels in second (194.050) and the Panthers finishing in third (193. 550).
- In addition to Brett's significant performance, the Panthers tied their fourth-highest balance beam score in program history with a season-high 49.100. Pitt earned the score for the fifth time, with the last instance being March 4, 2018, in a quad meet against Penn State, West Virginia and Temple.
- Freshman Kiley Robatin led the Panthers on beam by earning the team's first 9.900 on any event so far this year. She earned second place overall for her routine.
- Other Panthers on the podium included sophomore Haley Brechwald on vault (third, 9.825), freshman Olivia Miller on bars (tie-second, 9.750) and senior Charli Spivey on floor (second, 9.850).
A WIN WOULD…
- Hand the Wolfpack its first EAGL loss of the season. NC State is 2-0 so far in the league.
- Be Pitt's first against NC State since Feb. 11, 2018. The Wolfpack won the last meeting between the teams at the 2018 EAGL Championship in Towson, Md. (March 24, 2018) by a score of 196.625-195.475.
- Be the Panthers' second win when competing at NC State in program history. Pitt is 1-10 all-time in road competitions against the Wolfpack, with the lone win coming Feb. 20, 1988 by a score of 179.000-175.250.
- Improve Pitt's record against NC State to 10-37 all-time.
- Improve the Panthers' 2019 EAGL record to 2-2.
ROBATIN NAMED EAGL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
- Freshman Kiley Robatin was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week, as announced Tuesday.
- The Sunbury, Pa., native is the 11th Panther in program history to earn the recognition. Fellow freshman Olivia Miller received the honor for Week 2 of the season (Jan. 15). Teammates Haley Brechwald (2018), Rachel Dugan (2017) and Alecia Petrikis (2017) each earned the honor at least once during their freshman campaigns.
- In a tri-meet against North Carolina and Temple at Fitzgerald Field House (Feb. 1), Robatin led Pitt with a career-high 9.900 on balance beam, placing second overall. The score marked the Panthers' highest individual score on any event so far this season.
- Robatin contributed to scoring Pitt's fourth-highest beam total in school history at 49.100, as one of four Panthers to earn season or career highs on beam at the meet.
RANKING THE PANTHERS
- Two senior Panthers lead EAGL individual event rankings for Week 5: Lucy Brett is the top performer on bars with an average score of 9.794, and Brittany West paces beam with a 9.850 average.
- Other Panthers featured in the EAGL rankings include sophomore Haley Brechwald on vault (second, 9.813) and senior Charli Spivey on floor (third, 9.825).
- Pitt ranks second in the league on vault (49.706), beam (48.775) and floor (48.856).
PINK MEET
- The Panthers will join the Wolfpack in wearing pink leotards at Saturday's meet inside Reynolds Coliseum to support breast cancer awareness.
PITT VERSUS NC STATE
- Saturday will be the 47th all-time meeting between the Panthers and Wolfpack, with NC Stat holding a 37-9 advantage in the series.
- Pitt is 1-10 all-time when competing at NC State, with the lone win coming Feb. 20, 1988 (179.000-175.250).
- NC State won the last meeting between the teams, 196.625-195.475, at the 2018 EAGL Championships in Towson, Md. The Wolfpack was named EAGL Champion at the meet.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- NC State (5-2, 2-0 EAGL) tops the conference with an average score of 194.770.
- Despite earning a season-high score last time out, the Wolfpack fell on the road at No. 5 LSU, 197.150-195.375 (Feb. 1).
- The Wolfpack is ranked No. 28 overall according to RoadToNationals.com. NC State leads the EAGL on bars with an average score of 48.820.
- Two members of the Wolfpack rank highly in the EAGL all-around standings, with Caitlyn Fillard in second (38.785) and Drew Grantham in third (38.710).
UP NEXT
- Pitt will visit regional rival West Virginia for a quad meet against the host Mountaineers, Cornell and Utah State Sunday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. in Morgantown, W.Va. The meet will be streamed live on WVUSports.com.
