PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh swimming & diving program will host nationally ranked Notre Dame for an exciting Atlantic Coast Conference dual meet this Friday and Saturday on campus at Trees Pool.
Coming off a sweep of Michigan State away from home a few weeks ago, the Panthers now face possibly their toughest test of the season thus far with the weekend visit of Notre Dame.
The Fighting Irish come to Pittsburgh ranked as the No. 18 men's team and the No. 23 women's team according to the most recent College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) TYR Top 25 poll, which also gave the Panthers 10 votes on the men's side.
Action will begin on Friday with diving at 1:30 p.m. followed by swimming at 4 p.m. The meet will conclude on Saturday with diving at 9 a.m. and another swimming session at 11 a.m.
As always, admission is FREE to all fans at Trees Pool for the two-day ACC meet.
Pitt's fourth-year head coach John Hargis and the Panthers know this weekend presents an opportunity to showcase the program's progress by going head-to-head with a nationally ranked conference foe.
On the men's side, the Panthers will be led by junior sprinter Blaise Vera, who has already been selected as the ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week twice this season. Senior swimmers Samy Helmbacher and Eben Vorster will look to boost their résumés as elite ACC athlete, while sophomore Josh Parquet leads the way for the Panthers in the diving events.
International newcomers Wojciech Dutkowiak and Cooper van der Laan have also been impressive early this season and could provide a huge boost to Pitt's efforts to knock off No. 18 Notre Dame.
Pacing the Pitt women in swimming will be seniors Valerie Daigneault, Sarah Giamber and Madelyn Shaffer, who are no strangers to competing at a high level in ACC action.
Another senior, Krista Jones, will have the opportunity to break her own Pitt record in platform diving as the Panthers and Fighting Irish have agreed to compete on platform during Friday's opening session. Sophomore Amy Read could be another contender for valuable points in diving for the Panthers.
Rookie swimmers Daisy Anderson and Kayla Graham have adapted to collegiate swimming well and should add quality depth for Pitt's matchup with No. 23 Notre Dame in the women's events.
The Pitt-Notre Dame meet will be televised online via ACC Network Extra on ESPN3.
Friday's action can be watched via this link, while Saturday's conclusion can be viewed online here.
Live stats for the meet will be available via the Meet Mobile app.
