The Opening Tip
• Pitt opens the season against conference foe Florida State Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Petersen Events Center (8 p.m. - ESPNU). Wednesday's contest marks the first time the Panthers have opened the season versus a conference opponent in program history.
• The Panthers are 78-34 all-time in season openers. Pitt has won 21 of the past 22 season opening contests.
• Head coach Jeff Capel is 8-2 in his head-coaching career in season openers winning each of the past six openers.
• Pitt returns a pair of double-figure scorers from last season in Xavier Johnson (15.5 ppg.) and Trey McGowens (11.6 ppg.). The sophomore backcourt tandem is the fourth leading returning scoring tandem in the ACC.

• Xavier Johnson, Trey McGowens and Au'Diese Toney accounted for 49.2 percent (1136-of-2306) of Pitt's scoring last season. The trio combined to average a Pitt freshmen record 34.6 ppg. while combining for 54 double-figure scoring games, including 14 20+ points scoring games.
• Last season, Trey McGowens became the first Pitt freshman to score over 350 points and collect over 50 steals in a season. He is the 14th-leading returning scorer in the ACC and the leader in steals.
• Terrell Brown enters the season five blocked shots shy of moving into the top 10 in Pitt career blocks chart. He has 106 blocks in 64 career games.
• The Panthers led the ACC with 16.5 made free throws per game and made 20 or more free throws in a game 11 times a year ago. Pitt made 38 free throws in a home win over Florida State last season.
• Xavier Johnson became the first Pitt player to earn All-ACC Freshman Team honors. He set Pitt freshman records for scoring, double-figure scoring games, 20-point scoring games and free throws made.
• Trey McGowens set a Pitt freshman record with 33 points in a Jan. 9 win over Louisville. He finished the season with three of the top five freshman scoring games in program history and is the only Pitt freshman to record two 30-point games in a season. McGowens recorded 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals in a Jan. 14 win over Florida State. He was 5-of-12 from the field and 18-of-19 from the free throw line in the contest.
• Au'Diese Toney, a 6-6 guard, grabbed eight or more rebounds in a game 10 times and led the Panthers in rebounding at 5.6 rpg. last season. He was one of four players 6-6 or under in the ACC to rank in the top 25 in rebounding. Toney became the ninth freshman in program history to lead the team in rebounding.
