Women’s Soccer Season Comes To an End with 1-0 Home Loss to Virginia Tech

PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's soccer season came to an end with a loss to (RV) Virginia Tech Halloween night at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Fighting tough weather conditions with strong wind and rain, the Panthers had a shot hit off the post and a tying goal waved off with 20 seconds left due to an offsides call.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Virginia Tech scored the game's lone goal on a corner kick, with the ball curling in off the kick and into the top of the net.
- Anna Rico had Pitt's first shot of the game in the 29th minute, sending a header wide right.
- Rachel Rasins put a shot off the right crossbar in the 77th minute.
- Cheyenne Hudson was the Panther who appeared to score the game-tying goal at the end of the game, which came off a free kick.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Panthers finished 10th in the ACC standings with eight points ahead of Miami (seven points), Wake Forest (six), Syracuse (four) and Boston College (four).
- The 10th place finish tied the 2015 squad, who went 4-6-0 in league action, for the highest finish in ACC play in program history.
- Picked 13th in the preseason coaches' poll, the Panthers were one of two schools to finish three spots or more ahead of their expected finish (Louisville was picked eighth and came in fourth).
- Caitlyn Lazzarini made three saves.
- Virginia Tech had the edge in shots (10-6) and corner kicks (8-2).
- Amanda West placed both of her shots on goal.
- West ends the year as the program's all-time single points leader at 29 and tied for first in goals (10) and assists (nine).
