Panthers Stay in Control of ACC
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Four Panthers recorded double-figure kills for No. 3 Pitt volleyball (21-1, 10-0) in a sweep at (RV) Louisville (15-5, 8-2) Sunday afternoon at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.
The Panthers remain the only Division I team to out-score each of its 2019 opponents. Pitt earned its sixth consecutive sweep by scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-20.
Junior outside hitter Kayla Lund led the quartet of double-figure killers with 11 on .217, and added eight digs. Junior right side Chinaza Ndee, senior middle Layne Van Buskirk and redshirt senior Stephanie Williams had 10 kills apiece. Williams hit .444 for the match.
Freshman setter Lexis Akeo posted 37 assists and two kills, and redshirt senior libero Hali Hillegas contributed a team-best nine digs. Sophomore middle Sabrina Starks led the blocking effort with five.
Pitt had the advantage in kills (47-32), assists (44-31), service aces (4-0) and digs (28-23). The Panthers out-hit the Cardinals, .255-.146.

Set One: No. 3 Pitt 25, (RV) Louisville 21
A 4-0 run gave Louisville an early lead, but Pitt battled with a 3-1 run to tie it up at 7. The Panthers earned their first lead since 4-3 following a 4-0 run to make it 14-11. Pitt continued to surge wit ha 5-1 run to extend the lead to 22-16. The Cardinals cut their deficit to 22-20 with a 4-0 spurt, but Pitt was able to win the short game, 25-21. The Panthers were plagued by five service errors in the frame. Williams led the way with five kills as Pitt out-hit the Cardinals, .273-.087.
Set Two: No. 3 Pitt 25, (RV) Louisville 22
Pitt used a quick 6-0 run to earn an early 6-2 lead. Louisville erased Pitt's lead after an 8-4 run to tie it at 10. The set saw six more ties, with the latest at 21-21, but the Panthers ended the frame on a strong 4-1 run to go up, 2-0, in the match. The Panthers limited the Cardinals to .097 hitting in the set.
Set Three: No. 3 Pitt 25, (RV) Louisville 20
It was another close frame marked by seven early ties, with the latest at 7-7. A 10-5 run, capped by an ace from Zoi Faki, put Pitt up, 17-12. The Cardinals cut Pitt's lead to two (17-15) after a 3-0 surge. A 4-1 run for Pitt ended the match with the Panthers on top, 3-0.

The No. 3 Panthers will host a four-match homestand, starting with Wake Forest Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. ET at Fitzgerald Field House.
