Panthers Set to Host LCM Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH—The Pitt swimming & diving program will host a quad meet featuring morning diving and long-course-meters swimming in the afternoon on Saturday as Duquesne, Villanova and Youngstown State visit Trees Pool.
Diving events are slated to begin at 8:40 a.m. before swimming starts at 1 p.m. Once again, admission is FREE for all fans for Pitt swimming & diving home meets.
Saturday's swimming events will be long-course meters, the format that international competition utilizes in meets from domestic championships through the upcoming 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. This differs from the short-course yards style of racing that is the norm in collegiate swimming.
"With the Olympics less than a year away, we're excited to have the opportunity to host a long-course meters meet in our pool," Pitt head coach John Hargis said. "We have several athletes with Olympic aspirations, so it's important to keep the focus on helping them prepare for that. It should be a fun day of swimming and diving at Trees."
The Panthers are coming off a two-day meet in Miami, where the Pitt men finished second and the women placed third while swimming and diving outdoors in the Florida heat against a strong field that included host FIU, LSU, TCU, FAU, Army West Point and others.
Saturday will also mark the first time this season competing as a ranked team for the Pitt men's team after the Panthers were voted as the No. 24 team in the nation by the CSCAA earlier this week.
