Chentouf Named New York-Penn League All-Star

Former Panthers’ Pitcher Makes All-Star Roster in First Year
PITTSBURGH –During his first season in his professional career, former University of Pittsburgh pitcher Yaya Chentouf has been named to the New York-Penn All-Star game after dominating on the mound for the Short-A Connecticut Tigers.
The former Panther was selected to be a part of the NYP North All-Star team and is one of four players from the Tigers selected to attend.
The 36th round selection of the Detroit Tigers from this year's draft, Chentouf has spent most of the summer with Connecticut, appearing in 12 games since June 26. The righty has gone 18.0 innings in that span for the Tigers, earning only a 2.00 ERA and 0.72 WHIP.
Over his 18.0 innings stretch, Chentouf has shut down opposing batters, allowing only 10 hits and four earned runs while racking up 10 strikeouts in the process. The former Panthers' pitcher has also been a key figure for Connecticut so far, as he in tied for first in the New York-Penn League in saves with eight during his short time there.
Chentouf joins the list of former Panthers who have made their respective league's All-Star Games this year. 2016 draftees T.J. Zeuch (Eastern League, New Hampshire Fisher Cats) and Charles Leblanc (Carolina League, Down East Wood Ducks) were also selected as All-Stars for their performances this season.
The New York-Penn All-Star game will take place on Tuesday, August 14 in State College, Pa.
