Panther Pitcher Tosses Summer to Remember with Chatham Anglers
PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh rising junior Dan Hammer has called it a summer with the Chatham Anglers after a tremendous season in the prestigious Cape Cod League.
The Panthers' righty was one of the best in the nation's top collegiate summer league, posting a 2-0 record and a 2.16 ERA in 25.0 innings for the Anglers, striking out 20 in the process.
Hammer had a strong start to his second stint with Chatham in his first appearance against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, giving up only one hit over 5.0 innings and striking out five to get his first win of the summer. Hammer would follow with another pair of strong performances against the Bourne Braves and Harwich Mariners, going a combined 8.1 innings and striking out seven while giving up a total of three hits and no runs. He would get his second win of the season against the Orleans Firebirds, going 6.0 scoreless innings, striking out four while surrendering just three hits.
Hammer's performance with Chatham earned him a spot at the Cape Cod League All-Star game as the starting pitcher for the East Division Team.
Hammer looks to bring his success in the Cape back with him to Pitt and help the Panthers build on their impressive season and ACC Championship run this past spring.
