PITTSBURGH—The Pitt swimming & diving teams had a combined nine student-athletes named to the 2018 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team, with senior diver Meme Sharp earning first-team honors while eight other Panthers garnered honorable mention recognition.
Sharp, who was one of three Pitt student-athletes to receive an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship this past spring and recently accepted an ACC Futures Internship with the prestigious Orange Bowl near Miami, Fla., earned selection as a CSCAA Scholar All-American for the third consecutive year.
"Meme has demonstrated time and time again what a champion she is—in the pool, in the classroom and in the community," Pitt swimming & diving coach John Hargis said of Sharp. "Her accomplishments as a University of Pittsburgh student-athlete have been incredible to witness."
Joining Sharp on the 2018 CSCAA Scholar All-America Team as honorable mention selections were swimmers Rachel Brown, Valerie Daigneault, Shan Hochkeppel, Shahar Menahem, Madelyn Shaffer, Samy Helmbacher, Brian Lovasik and diver Cortnee Williams.
Brown, Daigneault and Lovasik each received honorable mention CSCAA Scholar All-America status for the second straight season, while the other five Panthers were first time selections.
Also for the second consecutive year, nine Pitt swimming & diving student-athletes received Scholar All-America recognition from the CSCAA, an accomplishment that pleased Coach Hargis.
"It always brings joy to us as a coaching staff to see so many student-athletes succeeding in the pool and the classroom," added Hargis, who is entering his third season at the helm of the Pitt swimming & diving program. "It is a credit not only to their hard work, but also to our academic services and life skills staff. I want to thank them for all of the quality support they provide for our swimming & diving athletes—day in and day out."
