EAGL Rookie of the Year Wraps up Dominant 2018 Season
The 2018 season saw the beginning of a new tradition of success for the University of Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team as first-year head coach Samantha Snider and her staff took the program to new heights.
The Panthers competed as a team in the NCAA Regional Championship meet for the first time since the 2013 season, setting top-10 marks in program history in every event, including a new bars record. The dominant season can be attributed to a slew of different attributes, but the contributions of freshman Haley Brechwald were some of the most impressive.

Brechwald took home the EAGL Rookie of the Year title, the first Pitt gymnast to do so since 2012, after capturing an EAGL record six weekly honors. The Springfield, Va., native was named to the league's first or second team on all five events, earning EAGL All-First Team recognition on floor and in the all-around.
Despite her individual success, the newcomer is quick to credit her teammates, coaches and support staff with helping her reach the feats she did in 2018.
"Achieving Rookie of the Year comes from a lot of different places," noted Brechwald. "It comes from a whole team of people from athletic trainers to coaches to teammates, everyone helping me every step of the way, every single day in and out of the gym."
There are a lot of different sides to Haley Brechwald. She is a champion. She is a competitor. She is a teammate. She is a Panther.
