Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Joins Elite Group
PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's basketball assistant coach Lindsay Richards will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Illinois State's Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill., May 5.
"I'm truly honored," Richards said. "It's humbling to join such a prestigious organization and be recognized among the many historical and talented players in the state of Illinois. I could not have done it without the love and support of my family, coaches and close friends. I celebrate this accomplishment with them."
Richards, who enters her sixth year on the Pitt sidelines, is a 2002 graduate of Barrington High School in Barrington, Ill. She remains the Fillies' all-time leading scorer and is one of just two players in school history to reach the 2,000-point plateau. She earned McDonald's All-America honors in 2002, adding to a list of accolades that includes being a two-time Nike All-American (2000, 2001), a Third-Team Parade All-American (2001) and a two-time Street & Smith Pre-Season All-America Honorable Mention (2000, 2001).
A native of Upper St. Clair, Pa., Richards went on to play for the University of Iowa and graduated in 2006 with a double degree in psychology and communications. As a sophomore, she started all 29 games at point guard and was a member of the 2004 Big Ten All-Academic team. Richards competed on the Big Ten Foreign All-Stars Team during the summer of 2004 in Australia.
The IBCA Hall of Fame was founded in 1973 to honor the best and most influential players, teams, coaches, media, officials, and friends of basketball in Illinois history. Since then, a new Hall of Fame class has been inducted every year. Notable members of the Hall of Fame include Tamika Catchings (2015) and Kevin Garnett (2017).
