Rathsack Earns Top-25 Finish at NCAAs
3/16/2018 8:00:00 PM | Swimming & Diving
COLUMBUS—Pitt senior Lina Rathsack posted her second top-25 NCAA finish in her career as a Panther, finishing 23rd in the 100-yard breaststroke after swimming the event in 1:00.17 during Friday morning's preliminary session at the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships inside Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Rathsack, who took second in the same event at ACCs last month, also finished among the nation's best in the 100 breast last season at NCAAs when she took 13th to earn status as an All-American.
In the diving well, Pitt freshman Lydia Rosenthall finished her NCAA Championships debut with a 45th-place finish on 3-meter springboard with 240.35 points following her six-dive set.
Pitt senior diver Meme Sharp did not compete on 3-meter springboard Friday. The distinguished Sharp, who was Pitt's first woman's ACC individual champion, finished her collegiate career as a three-time NCAA qualifier, a past All-American, a USA Diving Winter Nationals champion, the recipient of the ACC Postgraduate Scholarship and Pitt's school-record holder in all three diving disciplines.
Two more Pitt standout seniors will finish their collegiate careers on Saturday. Rathsack will swim in the 200-yard breaststroke during the 10 a.m. prelims session, aiming for a spot in Saturday night's finals. Amanda Richey will also eye All-America honors in the 1,650-yard freestyle mile, which begins with early heats starting at 3:45 p.m.
Saturday's event finals will be shown live on ESPN3 starting at 6 p.m.
