Freshman Takes First in Heptathlon Long Jump
CLEMSON, S.C. – Freshman Kollin Smith placed first in the men's heptathlon long jump to highlight Pitt's first day at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex Thursday.
Smith leaped for a season best mark of 7.25m to pick up 874 points. He sits in sixth place with 2,826 points after completing the first four events: 60m dash, long jump, shot put and high jump. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native will finish the heptathlon Friday with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m run.
Freshman Breanna Phillips and senior Sullena Staton were Pitt's entries in the women's pentathlon, placing 11th and 13th, respectively. Phillips closed out the event by placing fifth in the 800m at 2:20.53 and ended with a personal best overall score of 3,497 points.
In the penultimate event of the day, the women's distance medley relay team of Miranda Salvo, Laila Ismail, Anja Weiler and Gillian Schriever took ninth place at 11:30.03.
The men's distance medley relay team of Drew Glick, Jabari Michael-Khensu, Danté Watson and Billy Caldwell closed out the day for Pitt by placing 11th at 9:59.15.
