PITTSBURGH—Two stand-out junior swimmers—Valerie Daigneault and Samy Helmbacher—will represent the University of Pittsburgh swimming & diving programs this weekend at the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Swimming & Diving Challenge at Purdue's Burke Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
The two-day all-star meet between two of the top conferences in collegiate swimming & diving will begin on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. with coverage on Big Ten Network Plus and conclude on the Big Ten Network this Sunday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.
Daigneault, who leads the Panthers with 11 individual event wins through the first few weeks of the 2018-19 season, will compete for the ACC women's team on an 800-yard freestyle relay Saturday before swimming individually Sunday in the 200-yard individual medley.
Helmbacher will try to boost the ACC men's team by racing individually in three events in which he already owns the Pitt school records—the 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard freestyle—as well as with one of the ACC's 800-yard freestyle relay teams. Helmbacher's Saturday swims will be in the 400 IM and 800 freestyle relay with his Sunday races in the 200 free and 200 IM.
Team scores will be compiled in dual-meet fashion, pitting the ACC against the Big Ten in a star-studded meet that features eight former Olympians and seven past NCAA champions.
