Pitt Offensive Line Selected a Semifinalist for Joe Moore Award

PITTSBURGH—The Pitt football team's offensive line has been named one of 10 semifinalists for this season's Joe Moore Award, which has been annually presented to college football's outstanding offensive line unit since 2015.
Led by experienced offensive line coach Dave Borbely, who is in his first season working at Pitt under head coach Pat Narduzzi and offensive coordinator Shawn Watson, the development of the offensive line played a huge role in the Panthers' ACC Coastal Division title—the first in program history.
Pitt is churning out 247.5 yards per contest on the ground this season, ranking 14th nationally and third in the ACC in that category. But during the team's current four-game winning streak, the Pitt rushing attack is averaging a remarkable 346 yards per game in victories over Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest that propelled the Panthers to a matchup with Clemson in the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte on Dec. 1.
Those dominant performances by the Pitt offensive line in recent weeks are what put the unit on the map for national recognition, with the Joe Moore Award committee saying that there's "no denying what Pitt has done over the last four games. They are physical and look to punish whenever possible, with lots of free face massages and pancakes. Blue-collar group."
Pitt's offensive line features four seniors: guards Mike Herndon and Connor Dintino as well as tackles Alex Bookser and Stefano Millin, a graduate transfer from Kent State. Sophomore center Jimmy Morrissey has started every game this season, playing a crucial role in the unit's success, but will miss the remainder of the 2018 campaign due to an ankle injury.
Sophomore Bryce Hargrove has also played frequently at guard and tackle, redshirt freshman Gabe Houy started at tackle in the season opener against Albany and senior fullback George Aston has become an honorary member of Pitt's blocking squad with his crucial role in the team's ground game.
No. 24/25 Pitt (7-4, 6-1 ACC) will play its regular-season finale at Miami (6-5, 3-4) this Saturday, Nov. 24. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN and kick off at 3:30 p.m.
The Panthers will then face No. 2 Clemson (11-0, 8-0) in the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game on Dec. 1 (ABC national telecast at 8 p.m.).
