Panthers Close Fall Season with 5-2 Record
KENT, Ohio – The University of Pittsburgh softball season dropped its final game of the fall season to Kent State, 8-4, Sunday afternoon at the Diamond at Dix.
The Panthers will close their fall ball season with a 5-2 record, collecting wins against Slippery Rock (two), Saint Francis (two) and Wright State, while falling to Ohio State and Kent State.
"The fall season is used to show you where you're at as a team, as an individual and as a program," said head coach Jodi Hermanek. "The coaching staff has seen excellent progress from this team and things we will continue to grow in our game. We take pride that every athlete has had an opportunity to perform and demonstrate their value to our program. We are grateful for the opportunity to compete and be challenged."
The Golden Flashes got off to a hot start in the matchup, putting up six runs in the first three innings. Pitt started to get its bats going in the fourth, putting up two runs of its own, but ultimately couldn't muster enough offense throughout the game to catch Kent State.
Senior Alexis Solak went 2-for-4 in the game while adding two runs. Junior Alexee Haynes collected a double and RBI in the contest, with junior Kaitlyn Kruger and sophomore Brie Horrell each recording an RBI in the matchup as well.
With the fall season in the books, the Panthers' next action will come in February when they open regular season play.
